Homeless Vets Kicked Out of Shelters to Accommodate Illegals

(Luis CornelioHeadline USA) Approximately 20 homeless U.S. veterans are being kicked out of New York hotel shelters to make space for an incoming flood of illegal immigrants.

The hotels, which serve as homeless shelters, told the veterans, including a 24-year-old man in financial distress after serving in the Afghanistan war, that their temporary housing will be terminated in subsequent weeks and that they needed to move out, according to the non-profit that focuses on protecting struggling retired servicemen.

Yerik Israel Toney Foundation CEO Sharon Toney-Finch told the New York Post that the vets are being misplaced because of a wave of migrants. “Our veterans have been placed in another hotel due to what’s going on with the immigrants,’’ said Toney-Finch in an interview with the New York Post.

The pro-veteran activist said the group quickly mobilized to help the former servicemen. “One of the vets called me on Sunday. He told me he had to leave because the hotel said the extended stay is not available. Then I got another call. We didn’t waste any time,” Toney-Finch told the Post.

The activist also told the Post the alleged mistreatment of the veterans made her cry. “That’s when we started on Monday to organize when and where to move them all,” she added. “I am glad you called me today. Last night, I was crying.”

Members of Congress express bipartisan outrage over unacceptable eviction notices sent to veterans.

Rep. Pat Ryan, D-N.Y., took to Twitter to condemn the city’s failure to protect the veterans, saying: “This is bullshit. 20 veterans lost their housing tonight because of incompetence by New York City government. I am doing everything I can to ensure these service members have a bed to sleep in tonight. Let me be clear. This will not be tolerated.”

Ryan’s slap down of the news was echoed by Rep. Marc Molinaro, R-N.Y., who said: “This is absolutely inexcusable and should not be happening in America.  This is the result of incompetence and a lack of compassion. This won’t be tolerated.”

Over 60,000 undocumented migrants have flooded New York City weeks before Title 42 ended on May 11. The policy, first enacted during the Trump administration at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, authorized border patrol agents to swiftly deport illegal migrants on health emergency grounds.
